Early Childhood Initiative:
Sf/qRIS Peer States Network

updated content (april 2009)

The National Alliance of Children's Trust and Prevention Funds began work in 2005 with 18 states in their Early Childhood Initiative. The over-arching goal was to embed the Strengthening Families Protective Factor (SF/PF) Framework into all systems that serve children and families. The intersection of family strengthening strategies, and states' effort to build and implement a state child care quality rating scale became the focus of some states in these efforts.

Most recently, three states have been intensively working on specific ways to support their Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) through the Strengthening Families approach. The April 23, 2009 webinar shared the strategies these three states -- Idaho, Pennsylvania and Tennessee -- are utilizing in this work, which is supported by the A.L. Mailman Foundation and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. The three states have also distributed a national survey to assess the level at which states' Children's Trust Funds are involved in this work. The results of the survey can be found in CTF Snapshot re. QRIS. In addition, the three states have collaboratively developed an education outreach piece, CTF/QRIS Learning Tool for CTFs and other prevention partners that will encourage them to partner with early childhood concerns and support high quality early care and education settings with family strengthening strategies.
